Visualization Analysis: Radar Images of Heavy Rainfall in Milwaukee

Selected Visualization

The visualization I chose shows two weather radar images highlighting heavy rainfall and flash flood warnings in the Northwest Milwaukee area on August 9–10, 2025. The radar uses different colors to show how intense the storm is, with reds and oranges representing the heaviest rainfall. Arrows are included to show the direction of the storm’s movement, and boxed warning areas make it clear which locations are most at risk.

 Analysis and Judgment

I believe this visualization was created by a human designer, not generated by AI. The added arrows, warning boxes, and labels show intentional design choices meant to quickly communicate important information during a severe weather event. These elements help viewers understand where the storm is moving and which areas are experiencing the most danger, which is especially important during flash flood situations.

The visualization also follows standard weather mapping practices, such as consistent color scales, clear timestamps, and geographic labels. Instead of focusing on visual style, the design prioritizes clarity and usefulness, allowing viewers to interpret the information quickly. Overall, this visualization is clearly designed with public safety in mind and reflects expert human involvement.
